Dual Diagnosis Rehab
Is Alzheimer's has a mental disorder for a dual diagnosis?

I'm investigating the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Facilities have found that dual diagnosis of mental disorders, or occurring in connection with addiction should be treated differently. Normal mental disorders mentioned were bipolar, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, etc, but does not mention Alzheimer's. Does this apply in the case of dual diagnosis?

Strictly speaking, yes, this could be considered a dual diagnosis, but this would not be the common use of the word. Dual diagnosis usually refers to abuse substance or chemical dependency in addition to or coexisting with a psychiatric disorder. Alzheimer's is considered a brain disorder, not a psychiatric disorder. I am a mental health worker who works primarily with those who have coexisting substance abuse disorders.
