Drug Rehab Poems
Rap/Hip Hop Songs with a strong message?
I tutor a group of boys in a Rehab Drug center and I want to improve their reading & comprehension skills, the only way I can get them to read is by reading lyrics from a popular artist.
Last week I had them read poems from Tupac.
Are there any songs you recommend that have positive meanings, little to no profanity, from a main stream artist (Lil Wayne, Kanye, T.I., Gucci Mane, Rick Ross) that would make a good read?
I also prefer something that isn’t constantly played on the radio..
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
if you want to improve their reading comprrehension, you should probably stay away from mainstream artists like lil wayne and Gucci Mane. They have good songs, but they won’t help kids with reading since they use a lot of bad grammar and cursing. Some of them are old, but here’s a list of clean hip-hop songs that you should use:
Children’s Story – Slick Rick
Hey Young World – Slick Rick
Ayo for Yayo – Andre Nickatina
Hip-Hop Police – Chamillionaire
Juicy – Biggie
I can – Nas
I’ll Be Missing You – P. Diddy
The Instrumental – Lupe Fiasco
Family Business – Kanye West
