Drug And Alcohol Rehab Programs

Why can people smoke in rehab?

I just read an article about a drug and Alcohol Rehab program, and residents can smoke in restricted areas. Nicotine is a highly addictive drug. It causes all kinds of illnesses. Why do you think drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs let people remain addicted to their most available drug?
To the second poster – its already obvious people in rehab need some sort of addictive chemical to cope – that’s what got them there in the first place. But isn’t the point of rehab to teach people to cope without those addictive chemicals? And no, I’ve never been in rehab – I was raised to deal with my problems without resorting to mood-altering chemicals.

You have obviously never been in rehab. People with an addiction have to have some sort of outlet. Those that have an addiction, unfortunately, need cigarettes to help them thru their withdrawal period. Cigarettes certainly beats drugs/alcohol addiction – trust me, I know.
