Drug Detox And Rehab Could Help Kentucky Welfare Recipients Become Self Sufficient
At a time when drug abuse and addiction have reached record levels across America, and authorities from the White House, engaged in serious efforts to improve Treatment Facilities, state of Kentucky is considering a law that cuts to public funding for each testing positive for drugs – including access to publicly funded drug detoxification and Treatment Programs.
The new law would mandate random drug testing of all adults who applyfor, or who are already on public aid, such as welfare, food stamps or assistance from publicly funded medical programs, Kentucky. If the welfare applicant or recipient refusing the test or positive, be refused further public support.
The proposed law that supports these people to cut off access to public detoxification and rehabilitation programs is confusing when you consider that Kentucky is among the highest prescription drug abuse statistics in the country:One study found 20% of the population of illegal prescription drugs – that one person in every five to get prescription drugs from an illegal source. Prescription drug addiction, dependency and abuse accounts for 20% of admissions in Kentucky, drug detoxification, Drug Rehabilitation and other forms of treatment.
In fact, the abuse of narcotic prescription painkiller OxyContin has become so widespread in Kentucky, that the drug is known by the dubiousNicknamed “hillbilly heroin.” Kentucky has literally thousands of OxyContin addicts, many in prison, or in anticipation of detoxification and rehabilitation, and hundreds of deaths were attributed to the drug. But prevailing opinion in Kentucky is clearly the lack of willingness to spend taxpayer money on social assistance if the recipient abused drugs.
However, testing by the refusal of treatment on the strength of a drug that would help the new law increases addiction, crime and more drugsCriminal justice and higher costs for medical care. Taxpayers would wind up paying more in the long run than the cost of drug development, detoxification and rehabilitation, and the state and the society the opportunity to its citizens, would be to lose productivity again.
It’s been proven many times that correspond with the right encouragement, support and motivation, almost all offenders are drug addicts or drug use, drug-enter rehab and detox. Thousands of dependencies and addictionsbe successfully treated with drugs daily detox to eliminate desire and immediate withdrawal. When followed by a comprehensive drug rehab, former drug addicts back to the responsible, drug-free and productive life, not drug-abusing welfare of drug addicts.
It is understandable for the taxpayers foot the bill for welfare recipients who abuse their status by drug abuse recoil. But to satisfy a different approach could helpreluctant taxpayers and also get addicts into treatment and back into the productive mainstream of Kentucky life.
Why not on public assistance who flunk the drug test at least one occasion, an alternative, a drug detox and rehab program will help, rather than at the roadblock from the beginning to accept her drug problem.
The refusal, drug rehab and detox, or the failure to give an additional drug testingafter drug detox and rehab for as long as they are on welfare would be a long way in reducing the welfare recipients to go and with the strengthening of the workforce rehabilitated citizens.
