Parental Drug Abuse Kids Living in a World of Insecurity
Drug abuse by parents can have ruthless insinuations on their children’s lives. Those children can suffer from several behavioral, social and emotional problems and developmental issues etc. They are inclined to problems and issues such as despair, poor performance at school, delinquency, inappropriate social behavior etc. Such children are prone to take up drugs in their later part of life. Parents who are addicted to drugs do not realize the effect that has in their children. They should that their drug abuse is affecting their children big time, in a number of ways.
The family life of drug abusing parents is horrible for their children. It is often is characterized by instability, hostile behavior, lack of interaction etc.
Let’s now discuss the impact that can have of children, because of parental drug abuse.
Impact on their Health:
Much health related issues have been found with those children whose parents abuse drugs. Those health related problems cast a permanent effect on those kids. They are often affected by unexpected mood swings, hostility and rude behavior. They also suffer from GI disorders, Migraines, asthma due to the stress they suffer. Even an unborn child gets affected when in their mother’s womb. There are chances for them to be born with brain deformities, mental retardation, growth abnormality, etc.
Education
Drug abusing parents will also have distressing outcome on their children’s education. Such children are more likely to suffer from poor academic performance and learning disabilities. They also compelled to skip their classes due to their illness or traumatic environment at their homes. They even cannot concentrate on their studies due to the verbal abuse happening at home. They may even develop behavioral problems like not interacting with anyone at school, crying alone, etc.
Financial Status
Most often parents who abuse drugs spend their earnings on getting drugs and they often neglect the basic amenities at home. They ignore the needs of their children, their education, etc. There is also a possibility to lose their jobs due their inability to work.
Affection
Parents who abuse drugs also display emotional or mental concerns. They often are hostile, depressed or exhibit personality disorders. These conditions often reflect on relationships and interactions between their children. They show lack of communication and no love towards their children. Such children grow up as someone with low self-respect, low confidence and with no sense of worthiness. They tend to be insecure as well.
To conclude, let me reiterate the fact that parental drug abuse does make their children live in a world of wariness, timidity, bewilderment, lack of confidence, uncertainty, insecurity etc.
Academic instruction isn’t the only responsibility teachers have in today’s classrooms. More and more, teachers are being called on to teach students about values … things like making good decisions, the showing of respect, taking responsibility, choosing friends, and having a positive attitude. It’s a responsibility that could be overwhelming, considering the limited hours available in a school day, the number of kids in the classroom, and the diversity of backgrounds and personalities each child represents.
