Alcohol Treatment Statistics

A person is under severe addiction if he has an intense craving for any substance, drug or alcohol, and his dependency on the same is extreme. The situation therefore needs to be cured as it quite a complex illness and it affects the entire life of an individual. The way to drug addiction begins with an individual resorting to voluntary consumption of drugs or alcohol, but eventually, with the passage of time, this voluntary consumption changes into involuntary consumption of drugs or alcohol, thereby leading to devastating consequences.
Since drug as well as Alcohol Abuse has made several inroads into numerous aspects of an individual’s life treatment and recovery eventually becomes quite complicated. Addiction has multiple dimensions and it infests all aspects of the individual, therefore all of these aspects need to be treated simultaneously during the treatment for addiction.
Effective treatment of drug or alcohol addiction comprises of many programs and each one of the elements of the treatment deals with different aspects of addiction. The basic objective of the holistic addiction treatment is helping a person overcome addiction, helping him lead a healthy life and ensuring that he does not resort to the practice ever again. The treatment also aims at helping a person perform his routine duties at work place, family as well as in the society at large.
Components of Addiction Treatment:
• Willingness from within to quit smoking, drug addiction or dependency on alcohol.
• The treatment given to a person does not hold true for another person, as the severity of addiction is different and variable. Treatment is based on severity and the circumstances under which the patient has resorted to addiction.
• Once the desire to change has come, analysis of gravity of addiction is done through a medical examination.
• It may be required that the treatment be administered for a longer period, as per the condition of the addict.
• Effective medication is an important component of the treatment, as it will facilitate the craving for the substance that the patient is addicted to.
• The medication should be coupled with effective counseling and inpatient or outpatient monitoring.
• Continuous assessment as well as monitoring is required to keep track of the success rate of the treatment.
• It is also mandatory that the patient continues to take the addiction treatment for a complete period, advised by the physician.
• Individual counseling or group counseling has its own benefits besides role play.
• Group therapy or peer support programs provide a new dimension to the treatment.
Any lapses in the treatment may lead to addiction and treatment again. The basic element of addiction treatment is that the characteristic features of an individual must be taken into account, before any treatment is designed for the patient. An addict leads an undisciplined life. After recovery he needs to be extremely disciplined. This transition is difficult to implement and will take quite a while getting used to.

Depression and Vicodin (Pain Pills)?
1)A bipolar person is rapid cycling. This means he is up really high one day, then down another. He is on medication but still fluctuates. He does not take vicodin or other drugs (alcohol, caffeine, etc). He feels very bad when he’s down
2)The same person controls his “up” mood, and takes vicodin when he is down. He feels good when he is down.
Is this effective treatment? Why or why not? Please include studies and statistics if possible.
i am severely depressed. I lost my beloved mom a year ago and that I will never get over. I also have lupus and fibromyalgia which are two painful diseases. My dr. prescribes Norco (strong Vicodin) for the pain. It does help the depression too, though it is not prescribed for that purpose. It gives me a sort of up..feeling. At least I can function mentally and and physically with the Norco. The depression is the killer though. Hope I helped.

Some critics have scoffed at the mov… |
