Alcohol and the Question of chlorine?

I wondered what causes errors to die when placed in a dish with alcohol? I suspect that alcohol evaporates at room temperature and fumes displace oxygen and suffocate the error. Is this right or is it something more / different. Secondly, I wondered what is what makes chlorine a murderer as effective when used in water treatment? I've been digging into my resources and water chemistry books, but I do not say much. I look forward know what is happening when chlorine dissolves in water and biota makes it kills. Thank you.

Second question first want to read about chlorine as it used in the First World War. It is a horrid piece of science, but it was effective. The chlorine is heavier than air. He moves like a piece of green slime in the movies horror. A large fan was used to direct their movement. When it gets close to someone and is inhaled, about three bad things happen at once. Breathing is immediately threatened. Your throat feels like it has been attracted by a massive colony of bees only softer. It's an unforgettable feeling, even in small doses. If you are wondering how I know, one of my students once dropped a bottle containing two elements that the chlorine gas produced. He was taken to a hospital 60 miles away: the rest of us had to evacuate the laboratory. The second thing that happens is that chlorine interferes with the way it does its job hemoglobin. You are immediately drowned by lack of oxygen. The third thing that happens is that an acid form and pretty good. Baking powder should be swallowed if I ever return to make this nightmare of an experiment. Other effects side, but I think you get the idea. The sinuses are clearned out, if that's any consolation. First question ========== His reasoning sounds good to me. Good enough to start your research. Alcohol is a poison in class 5, along with some of the most common best-known poisons such as cyanide. Pretty good morbidity.
