Alcohol Treatment Online
Alcohol Treatment Online

For most people who consume alcoholic drinks, their drinking of the beverages is limited to one daily beer or glass of wine, or an occasional drink during special occasions. For others, it is a problem. Conservative figures put the percentage of worldwide alcoholics at 4% of the adult population. Alcoholism is a dependence on alcohol, which produces multiple symptoms for at least a year.

Numerous alcoholics have tried unsuccessfully to break their addiction to alcoholic beverages. The good news is that taking the right steps (and not necessarily 12 of them) can help to free you from alcohol dependency. Here are some of the most popular and effective methods to stop drinking alcohol:

1. Prescription medications

Unfortunately, there is no “magic” pill that will help you to stop drinking alcohol. But the good news is that there are some powerful prescription drugs available that can significantly reduce your craving for alcoholic beverages.

The content of these drugs vary. Recently, some researchers have discovered that a particular anti-seizure drug seems to be extremely effective in helping alcoholics to kick their drinking habit. In fact, the study revealed that even when taken in small doses, heavy drinkers were 600% more likely to stay abstinent for an entire month!

2. Twelve Step Program

This is undoubtedly one of the most popular methods used to stop drinking alcohol. The steps are the essence of the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) recovery program. Since being created, the 12-steps have even been adapted for other types of addiction recovery. When completing the 12-step program to combat alcoholism, it is crucial that the person complete each of the steps in their sequential order. While some people fully recover after completing the 12 steps, others make their completion an ongoing process. Yes, the 12-step program is intensive. But it is also proven to be extremely effective.

3. Psychological Counseling.

For many people, receiving face-to-face counseling can be effective in helping them to eventually end their consumption of alcoholic drinks. The counselor will help the alcoholic to analyze his or her problem, and then determine which everyday habits he or she should change, in order to become free from an addiction to beer, wine, or hard liquor.

With the advent of the Internet, online counseling is available for those who are hesitant about receiving face-to-face counseling. This allows alcoholics to receive help with their problem, from the privacy of their own home.

4. Inpatient Treatment

This type of treatment is most beneficial for those who have unsuccessfully participated in outpatient programs. Inpatient Treatment Programs are intensive, and include treatments such as medical detoxification, extensive therapy, and education. The length of these programs can vary from a week to multiple months, based on the needs of the alcoholic. Furthermore, the structure of residential programs environments is quite structured. And medical professionals are continuously available to assist the recovering alcoholic.

If you are suffering from alcoholism, then your situation may seem hopeless. However, you should be encouraged to know that several types of effective treatments are available for those who have an addiction to alcoholic drinks. There is hope!

When a Man Loves a Woman

When a Man Loves a Woman

To appreciate 28 Days, it’s best to be thankful that director Betty Thomas hasn’t forced Sandra Bullock into a remake of Clean and Sober. Some critics have scoffed at the mov…
