Skin moisture loss around eyes and other places can be caused by numerous things, including over-exposure to the sun, swimming in chlorinated pools and the use of harsh cleansers. Even tap water can cause dehydrated body skin, possibly due to the chlorine and other chemicals found in it. You’ll learn in this article details about those and other causes, plus you will find out – How to Prevent & Restore Skin Moisture.

**Skin Dryness

Excessive skin dryness is also referred to as xeroderma. It can be accompanied by scaling, peeling, itching and cracking.

It may be present on the scalp, arms, legs, knuckles, stomach, back, feet and thighs or any other part of the body. It is particularly troublesome when it is present on the face, because it damages one’s appearance. It is also troublesome because Xeroderma is accompanied by an increased risk of facial wrinkles.

Anyone that has suffered from serious sunburn has experienced the symptoms of xeroderma. The skin’s outer layers become dried out and peel off. This is the body’s natural reparative processes at work. Assuming one is young and in good health, the underlying layers will be moister.

**Chemical Cause

Chlorine, cleansers, alcohols and other compounds are known to be drying. Some are actually used to dry excessive oils or sebum, which is not really a good choice. As the body senses the presence of dehydrated skin, it may produce even more sebum, if someone has an oilier complexion.

Researchers conducted studies in Maryland several years ago concerning the drying effect of tap water. They found that it strips the skin’s natural oils and causes excessive dryness. Since bathing is necessary, dryness is a problem for many people.

**Dehydration Cause

Not drinking enough water or drinking too much alcohol or too many caffeinated beverages can cause dehydrated skin. The skin’s dryness is actually one of the visible symptoms of minor and serious cases of dehydration. Some doctors believe that many people are mildly dehydrated most of the time.

**Humidity Cause

Low humidity is a cause of xeroderma. Some regions naturally have lower humidity than others. The dryness in places like Arizona is good for the joints and respiratory system, but bad for the skin’s health.

Xeroderma is particularly common in the wintertime in many parts of North America. The cold air outside combined with the warm indoor air creates a low relative humidity. A hot shower makes the problem even worse.

**Nutrition Cause

Nutritional deficiencies can cause skin moisture loss. In particular, a deficiency of vitamin A or vitamin D can cause the problem. A lack of vitamin A (and E) plays a role in acne, as well.

Doctors have reported that vitamin D deficiencies are on the rise. They think the widespread use of sunscreen may be to blame. Sunscreens filter out UV light, which inhibits the body’s ability to make vitamin D. So, you might say that sunscreen use is a cause of excessive dryness.

**Medication Cause

Medications like antihistamines and diuretics can cause the problem. It can also be a sign of illness.

While there are many causes of skin moisture loss around eyes and dehydrated body skin, there is one simple solution.

You will learn about that in my next article – How to Prevent & Restore Skin Moisture. See the author/resource box below for the next article.

How do I get rid of DUI convictions?

I got a DUI in 2003, which I got a PBJ for. 16 months in I got another DUI whih violated the probation of the first. All hell broke loose. 6 months in jail, which I got out early on an appeal and alcohol treatment up the wazoo. I have excellent credit and have never missed a day of work and have a college degree. How do I get rid of these off my record so I can move on? BTW I live in Maryland.

Some things can’t be expunged and never go away. DUI is one of them.
