Alcohol Intervention

Planning an alcohol intervention?

If you have a friend or family member who suffers from alcoholism, you are no doubt aware of the byproduct of the disease. You've probably witnessed the alcohol isolated from friends and family, a worsening of health, problems at work, depression and perhaps criminal matters. To make matters worse, alcohol has been described as progressive, which means that the weather worsens. To put it differently, where the alcohol is actually less in lifestyle and overall is as good as it gets for him. And for most alcoholics, that condition is sad.

You may have tried to convince the alcoholic to seek help. You've begged, pleaded and cried, it was all in vain. Alcoholics are brilliant with their defense mechanisms, and say and do almost anything to get it off his back, ending the conversation and return to your drinking in peace.

An option in the treatment of alcoholics is not do nothing and hope it reaches the proverbial "bottom" and magically aid applications. Sometimes this option works, but the downside potential is enormous. "Bottoms" often include death, imprisonment and / or irreversible health problems. The question is, why allow your friends and family the alcoholic to go that route if another option is available?

The option which I refer is an alcohol intervention. An alcohol intervention is a process orchestrated by friends and family an attempt to stop the destructive and threatening behavior of a person suffering from alcoholism. Some people consider alcohol intervention as an unwarranted intrusion in the life of an alcoholic. Quite the opposite is true. While alcoholics may well be upset at the idea of a family intervention, the family must understand that anger is a result of the disease, making every effort to maintain and perpetuate addiction disease. If the intervention team is properly trained what to say and how to act in the whole process, the intervention may be one of the most loving, care and support of events that a family can do for your loved one suffering from addiction.

If you are considering an intervention, the first item of importance is the question of treatment. You just do not go ahead with the intervention unless the treatment plant is aligned and ready to admit. And, since the treatment is the solution to the problem, the family needs to cope to a variety of issues relating to the treatment facility desired. What treatment facilty best suits the needs alcohol? Does treatment near Home or away? Is there a problem of dual diagnosis? Who will pay? Is there medical insurance available? The above questions are a part of what to be addressed when considering a treatment facility. It may seem overwhelming, but with the assistance of an intervention specialist and / or other medical health professionals, treatment facility selection process is manageable.

The next item of importance when considering an intervention is to train intervention team. You may have noticed that more than one-on-one conversations with an alcoholic often lead to extreme frustration and anxiety on their part, and any change in the alcoholic. The alcoholic will employ a variety of defense mechanisms to disseminate their attempts. Responses like "I have not a problem, bother me, I'll just go to an AA meeting, I can go out on my own, you are making a big deal out of nothing "are just a sample based on the responses of you may have heard. The presence of a properly trained group of friends and family members the delivery of "testimony" in a loving and supportive has the tendency to eliminate alcohol from your comfort zone defense-minded, and is significant of the head and heart.

Treatment selection and training facilities of equipment are two important decisions in the organization of an alcohol intervention. There are other substantive and logistical considerations. While the organization alcoholic intervention may seem daunting, the help of family members and, in particular, an intervention specialist will facilitate the overall process and enhance the success of the event.
